What is Webster Technique?
Webster Technique is chiropractic technique designed specifically to restore balance to pelvis and related structures in pregnant women. The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association defines Webster Technique in the following way:
”The Webster protocol is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/SI joint dysfunction. In so doing neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is improved.”
The theory behind this technique is that misalignment of the sacrum (the bone at the center of the pelvis at the back) causes tissue tension through the uterus because the uterus is attached to the front aspect of the sacrum. This pelvic dystocia, or misalignment, and the resulting uterine constraint can restrict the baby’s ability to move in the final stages of pregnancy and reduce the diameter of the pelvic outlet (the ring created by the bones of the pelvis through which the baby must pass during delivery). This technique employs a combination of an indicated chiropractic adjustment to the pelvis and a corresponding soft tissue release, balance is restored to the pelvis and tension is removed from the uterus. This allows as much intrauterine space as possible for the baby to move into position, with as large a pelvic outlet as possible for an easier delivery.
Dr. Jennifer Price, D.C., is Webster Technique Certified. With her Webster Technique Certification and her Certification by the Academy Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics (CACCP), she is one of the most qualified chiropractors in the north bay to provide your chiropractic pregnancy care.
