What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a holistic natural healing science, philosophy and art which restores proper motion and function to the body through the use of specific spinal manipulations, called “adjustments”, and provides pain relief for a number of common symptoms such as low back pain, neck pain, poor posture, and headaches, among other things. Though the use of therapeutic joint manipulation has been recorded throughout history in a number of cultures, Chiropractic was first developed in the United States in 1895 by a Canadian man named D.D. Palmer. The profession grew in popularity over time, and began to be recognized as a licensed profession in the U.S. as well as other countries such as the U.K., Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. It is also taught and practiced elsewhere throughout the world as an unlicenesed healing art. Despite adversity and negative propaganda from the medical community, Chiropractic has grown to become the third largest doctored health profession in the world behind medicine and dentistry.
There are many different techniques in Chiropractic, and many chiropractors will employ a variety of techniques to best suit each individual patient. Most chiropractic techniques involve a hands-on manipulation in which the doctor applies positions the patient in certain ways and applies direct pressure in a specific manner to create movement in a fixated spinal joint. Other techniques may use special instruments or low force contact on joints and soft tissues instead.
Ultimately, Chiropractic is a therapeutic treatment which helps promote and maintain health and wellness in the body. This is accomplished through biomechanical correction and removal of stress from the nervous system and from the structures of the spine and musculoskeletal system. The result of chiropractic care is reduced pain and symptoms, increased mobility and flexibility, better posture, better health, and most importantly... A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE!
