What is That Noise I Hear When I Get Adjusted?

Most people will experience a cracking or popping noise when they get adjusted. The proper name for this noise is a “cavitation”. A cavitation occurs when a joint is manipulated. It is the result of the sudden change in pressure within the joint capsule, which occurs when the adjustment is made. It is nothing to be concerned about, and it is NOT the sound of anything breaking. In some instances you may receive an adjustment and hear no cavitation at all. The validity or effectiveness of an adjustment is not dependent on the cavitation.
